AI SummaryThe caller discussed two dead trees near a house and requested a price estimate over the phone. The agent explained pricing factors, including scheduling, emergencies, and a minimum price, and suggested the caller send photos for an on-site review by Mike; the caller agreed to have Mike or his scheduler follow up. The next steps involved the caller sending pictures and awaiting a price from Mike’s team, with a follow-up call arranged.
CustomerHello?
JoeHello, is this Mr. Norse?
JoeThis is Joe.
CustomerYeah, Joe. Are you the one texting me?
JoeI just texted you just a minute ago.
CustomerOkay.
JoeAnd have you talked to some other tree guys?
CustomerI think I've talked with your company
Customerabout a month ago,
Customerbecause they asked me to send pictures, and I sent pictures,
JoeOK.
Customerbut I've
Customernever heard anything back. Are you local and not still?
JoeYes, we sure are.
JoeSo let me just see if I can refresh your memory.
JoeDid you talk to a guy named Cowboy or okay, well, tell me about your trees.
CustomerI can't remember.
CustomerHe had to go outside,
JoeI'll help you with it.
Customerhe had to go outside
Customerand take different pictures of the trees,
Customerwhich is a lot of trouble.
CustomerAnd I sent them to him, but he never got back with me.
CustomerOr exact, what is the name of your company?
JoeSo did you say you had a lot of trouble taking pictures?
CustomerWell, to me is a lot of trouble to have to go through that.
CustomerYou know, it's hard to get a 30 foot tree in one picture
Customerand then take pictures of how round they are.
JoeOkay.
CustomerWhat about the last, what's the name of your company?
JoeThe name of the company is the certified arborist tree service where we've been in
JoeNashville for several, for many years. I don't want to say forever, just about 10
Joeyears.
CustomerOkay, what part of that sort are you in?
JoeWell, you know, where we're at is we moved our office, you know,
Joein our home place up there toward, um, um, in the Northern part.
JoeWhat happened is, uh, my name is Joe Lombardo.
JoeI was the owner of the company and I've moved up here to Salt Lake City, Utah,
CustomerOh, okay.
Joecompany that run, the man that runs the company, his name is Mike
JoeMcDonald.
JoeHe's actually purchased a company from me.
JoeAnd so I'm just taking calls for him because I have a lot of experience.
Customerokay.
JoeI know a lot about trees and doing it for 40 years.
JoeAnd so I'm just trying to help out and I'm, you know, so
CustomerWell, I kind of, I don't see how you can give me a price over the phone,
Customerbut these are two trees,
Customerthey're about a foot in diameter,
Customerthey're about 30 foot tall,
Customerand they're about 15 foot from my house,
Customerand they're both dead.
CustomerThey look strong, they look, they look strong, they look good, but I know they are both dead.
Joeyeah, so,
Joeso do you just want them pruned or you want to take
Joethem down?
JoeYeah.
CustomerNo, take them down.
JoeOkay.
JoeI'm trying to take if I can hear you better.
CustomerSo how could you give a price without looking at them?
JoeOh, now, now I can hear you.
JoeI, I fixed the audio on my phone.
CustomerOh, okay.
JoeNow I won't have to sound like I don't have a brain cell.
JoeOkay.
JoeSo, so you said you have to be, so I kind of need you to go over it again if you will.
JoeI'll make sure we got it.
CustomerOkay.
JoeAnd you just need, you want to get them trimmed
Joeor you want an estimate to see if they're in good health?
JoeAll they're dead, okay.
CustomerNo, they are dead.
CustomerThey are definitely, they are dead.
CustomerThey're about 30 feet tall,
Customermaybe a little more.
CustomerThey're about 12 inches in diameter and they're about 15 foot from the edge of
Customermy house.
JoeOkay.
CustomerNormally I live in the woods, lots of trees.
CustomerSo normally when they're dead, I just let them fall. And once they fall,
CustomerI cut them up and take care of it then.
CustomerBut these two are too close to the house for me to try to even cut them.
JoeAll right. So if you don't mind that, you know, rednecks know how to take these trees down.
JoeAnd so here's how we do it. When a person wants to cut and leave, like if you just want to have
Joethe trees cut down and leave them or they lay on or cut them up yourself, we do that. So what we
CustomerYeah.
CustomerYeah.
Joedo though is we don't come out there and like a bunch of knit widths, we actually size it up and
Joewe easily put ropes up in the tree. You know, it's not a, you know, that's a skill we have. We got a
CustomerYeah.
Joeand then we tie the ropes on it, we know how to tie it around there, and if the tree's leaning
CustomerRight.
Joeback or anything, we have little hand-operated winches that are specially designed for ropes,
Joethey're not wires, they're none of that stuff,
Customerright.
Joeand then we can just inch them over, inch them
Joeover, inch them over, and then they follow just exactly where we want to. And we have insurance,
Joeso that if something does happen, but we don't take risk, I mean we don't have to,
CustomerYeah, that's right. Yes,
Customeryes.
JoeSo, if you want an estimate, you know, you could probably send me some pictures.
JoeI might get throw something out on the phone, but if you were pricing this out, what would you say?
JoeWould you say this is over $500 or under $1,000? Okay. Well,
CustomerI have no idea.
Joehere's what really governs the price.
JoeA lot of times, if you give us an opportunity to schedule it, like around the crew and stuff like that, that makes the price better.
JoeIf it's like an emergency, you know, that, you know,
Joewe have to come out right now or whatever. Sometimes that makes it more expensive,
Customerthat it's not, it's not emergency.
Joebut we're real flexible on the pricing.
CustomerI just don't think that you often do it without coming to look at it and give me a prize.
JoeWell, okay, that's, that's very likely to be true.
JoeWhat I'm going to, I'm just going to tell you that generally we have a minimum of $1,000
Joeunless we can, listen, let me just tell you right,
CustomerAll right, here we go.
Joebut if we can schedule it in with some
Customerbuy much less.
JoeNow, sometimes we know some other guys that need work and we'll pass the lead
Joeonto them.
CustomerI just have to know the price before you cut them down.
JoeOh, well, we definitely give you a price. We don't,
Joewe don't scare people like that. That would be wrong. No, we look at the trees.
CustomerYeah,
Customeryeah,
JoeWe tell you what the price is. I'm just telling you how many trees is it?
JoeJust two trees. I think you should send me some pictures. I,
Customertrue.
CustomerThey're about, they're about, I don't know,
Customerless than four foot apart from each other.
JoeI just think you should send me some pictures and then I'm going to have Mike
Joeput his eyes on it. He's, we get
Customerokay,
JoeMasing five star reviews.
JoeEverybody loves Mike.
JoeHe knows what he's doing.
JoeHe's a veteran of tree work and you'll be treated right, Gary.
Customerokay.
CustomerNo, I'm just gonna walk up to the front porch
JoeOkay, and I'll look at him right here.
Customerand then I'll take you to the pictures.
JoeAnd then I'm probably gonna have Mike
Joeor his scheduler call you, okay?
CustomerOkay, I need a prize first.
JoeThat way they can, but I'm gonna send,
CustomerI need a prize first.
Joewhat's that?
JoeNobody's gonna come do anything without giving you a price.
JoeI promise.
JoeThat's just not the way to treat people, don't you agree?
CustomerOkay.
CustomerThere might be three trades in the picture.
CustomerIt's gonna be the two on the rise.
JoeOkay, I'll talk to you about it before before anybody comes out. Okay, just send
Joethem over here to this. I'm going to text you a number and you'll be able to text and you'll see
CustomerOkay, Dan.
Joeit. Okay.
CustomerOkay.
JoeAll right. Thank you, Gary.

CustomerHello?
JoeHello, Gary. This is Joe Lombardo, the tree guy.
CustomerYes, I tried though.
JoeIs this a good time? I've looked at your pictures.
CustomerOh, that's just fine.
JoeIt is? Okay.
JoeSo, you know, they don't look too big or too bad.
JoeYou know, they look like they would be fairly easy to lay down.
JoeWould you just like them cut down and lay on the ground and cut up?
CustomerI want to haul it all.
JoeOkay, so you want us to... Okay, that's good. That's pretty good.
JoeSo we could cut those down. What I'm going to do is I'm going to have Mike McDonald
JoeAnd the schedule this, all right? Because I think this, if you want
Joethat hauled off, you know, it's probably, you know, it's going to be between,
JoeI can't really tell
Joeexactly, you know, what's around there. But, you know, it's going to be $800 to $1,000, probably
Joeif you want it hauled off. If you just wanted to cut down and cut up into sections, you know, it'd
Customerdon't want to stand that much, but I appreciate you giving me a quote.
Joegiven that you probably have, you know,
CustomerI don't know.
CustomerI probably need to get some other quotes,
Joeoh, no doubt,
Joeno doubt she would need other quotes. So we, we don't try it. Yes. Okay.
Customerbecause I have no idea.
JoeYeah. Well, that's the thing, you know, so, uh,
Joebasically what it is is trees are easy to cut down.
JoeWhat it is is paying the dump fees and, uh, those kinds of things and what,
CustomerRob.
Joethose are the things that make it, uh, expensive.
JoeBut like if we just come and cut it down and cut it up a lot of times,
Joeyou know, you could save half that.
CustomerYeah.
JoeHave you ever had tree work or yard work?
Joedone like that. Yeah. Yeah, see that I'm that kind of guy. I'm gonna do it yourself
CustomerI've usually done it myself,
Customerbut I'm 71 years old now. I don't have the streets I used to.
JoeYeah, well, you know, I'm 69. I'll be 70 in January. So I I feel you I've done it all my I've done it all my life, you know, so
CustomerOh, okay.
JoeBut I still think I could do everything even though I shouldn't but you know
JoeWe're all live on a tight budget or we don't want to you know, we don't want to be price couch
JoeIt's just that everything is crazy if we're keeping up with our insurance, you know, which
JoeText you. And if we have good staff members, honestly, you just can't buy those people unless you pay them properly. You know, that's all, that's all that is.
CustomerYeah.
CustomerWhat would be the price if you just cut it up and left it on the ground?
JoeI'm gonna, I'm, you know, I like, if you were, if we could come and schedule it, and Mike would have to confirm this, you know, it would be half that probably I'm not like, you know, somebody's gonna have to look and see if they could be let down properly.
JoeThat kind of stuff with that be more careful, right?
CustomerGod.
JoeIt can't be because, uh, while we, if, you know, if we were all buddies and we were having a beer
Joetogether and all that, you know, we might just let it fall and flip around. But when we work for
Joea customer, you know, we really, we have to, we really take pride in care with it, not to, you
Joeknow, tear things up.
CustomerRight. Okay.

Joeit on to me,
CustomerYes,
Joebut I'm here to help.
Customerwell I have a 70,
Customerwell the house was built 73 years ago, and this was part of the original
Customerlandscape.
CustomerSo it's about a 70 plus year old sugar mate,
JoeOkay, it's a sugar my pot, okay?
Customerand it's never been cut on before,
Customerand it's never lost a limb.
CustomerAnd in that horrible storm that we just had this year,
JoeUh-oh.
Customerit didn't lose hardly a leaf,
Customerbut it's huge.
CustomerSo I'm wondering,
CustomerI mean,
CustomerI'm wondering if two of the
Customerkind of go out to the side should maybe be cut all and it's super
Customersuper tall so I don't know I know we had we have lived here 47 years and about
Customer30 years ago we had an arbanist that took care of the trees at Vanderbilt and
Customerhe told us to never cut a limb that went up only cut limbs that go down but we
CustomerAnd if it needs to be cut back somehow,
CustomerI want it safely done.
CustomerI don't want to damage the tree.
CustomerI mean, it's easy to get to.
CustomerThere's a driveway right beside it.
CustomerTwo of them in fact on either side.
CustomerIt's just huge.
CustomerSo I don't know what we should do.
CustomerMy girlfriend has one too.
CustomerA block and a half from here and it's this big.
CustomerAnd she hadn't touched hers either.
Joelet me just tell you a little,
JoeI'll talk to you about trees a little bit.
JoeI'm gonna see if it matches your experience.
JoeYou know, I've been talking to people for 40 years
Joeabout their trees.
CustomerYeah.
JoeAnd, you know, if trees, they endure.
JoeAnd I just wanna use that because they don't come and go.
JoeWhat they do is they put on new fresh material
Joeon the outside of their tree, you know?
JoeSo the inside doesn't grow, it's like a fingernail.
JoeI mean, you know, it's dead.
CustomerYeah.
JoeOkay, but so the inside is just there to hold the tree up and then it just adds a layer
Joeon the outside, one new one after another.
CustomerUh-huh.
JoeAnd so when you cut a limb off of a tree,
Joeall that happens is inside, down below the
Joecut, the tree begins to seal it off, just like if you cut your finger, it'll start clogging
Customerright.
Joeup in there.
Customerright, a new project.
JoeSo we've seen that. So you can put a little heart shape in a tree, you know,
Joecut your, you and your sweetheart,
Joejust carve it on the tree and then the tree will cover it up.
JoeBut that little place is always inside. Now, sugar maples,
Joethey can live a long time.
JoeA lot of them get root fungus and then you'll see that up in the tips of the trees.
Customeryeah.
JoeIt's happening to the tree itself.
JoeUm, then
Customerlook out.
JoeBecause you could have several things happening to it all at once a person a person could feel it's all or nothing
CustomerYeah.
JoeOh, well, this tree has to come down or you know, this is that and if you heard the rule
JoeFrom the vent from the other arborist from long ago
JoeHe said only cut limbs they go this way and not that way
JoeWell, you know the wind does whatever it wants to a tree and so does the power company
CustomerRight.
CustomerI know the power company's not touched it. No, we're near a power line.
JoeYes, ma'am, but what I'm trying to tell you what I'm trying to tell you is that these trees recover anyway
CustomerThey're horrible. Yeah,
JoeNo, they don't die
Customerright.
JoeBut some pruning requires depending on how you prune it may require you to come back and prune it sooner than later
JoeSo the difference in pruning has to do with how much time and money a person might want to put on doing it
JoeSo I would just tell you this don't worry about a thing
JoeWe'll come out and do an inspection
Customerokay.
Joeand you know, just as long as you just know
Joethat you can cut a limb anywhere you want to on a tree.
JoeNow, what that means is you first take away the hazards
Joefrom the tree so that the people are safe.
CustomerRight.
JoeYou make that safe and then you work to make it healthy
Joeand while you're at it, make it beautiful.
CustomerRight.
JoeYou see, so that's where the good judgment comes.
JoeNow, Mike is gonna be able to come out there
JoeAnd you say you have a neighbor that's nearby
Joethat has a similar concern?
Customerwell she doesn't have a concern i don't think but hers is just as big
